Paraguay is one of only two South American countries with no direct access to the sea. Located in the center of the continent, bordering Bolivia, Brazil and Argentina, the region was settled by the Spanish beginning in the early sixteenth century, with the capital of Asuncion being founded in 1537.

Paraguay gained its independence in 1811, though Spanish of course remains one of the official languages, the other being the native Guaraní. The population of just over 7 million is concentrated in the southeast, where the capital is located. Much of the land is grassy plains with a subtropical climate.

Paraguay Golf Association was founded in 1979. In Paraguay there are 2 golf courses. The best golf course in Paraguay is Paraná Country Club and the most visited golf club in Paraguay is Asuncion Golf Club.
